The Huntsman’s Tale by Shiromi Arserio 3 out of 5 stars
I downloaded The Huntsman’s Tale during it’s free download period after a recommendation from a fellow ebook reader. The Huntsman’s Tale depicts the story of Gaard, a huntsman who struggles to feed his wife, Hilda, and child, Gabrielle, during a time of hardship.
Gaard, while stalking game, accidentally stumbles into the King’s private hunting grounds. After a moment of indecision, he kills the game and takes it home without getting caught. He does this several more times before being found by the King’s fiance, Lady Vala.
Lady Vala makes him an offer which he, in fear for his life, is unable to refuse. There begins the tale of the relationship of the queen and her huntsman.
The Huntsman’s Tale grabbed my interest within the first paragraph. The author wove enough intrigue into those few sentences to snag me into reading the rest of the story. While there were a few punctuational errors, (slight and not enough to ruin the entire read,) the writing was, on the whole, an easy enough read.
My main complaint is the ending. I won’t ruin it here for those who hate spoilers, but I felt the ending could have done the tale a little more justice. His story began so intriguingly, I would have liked a little more “Oomph.”
Otherwise, I enjoyed the read and wouldn’t mind reading more from this author 🙂 I give this story 3 of 5 stars.
