Today Mark Budman, author of Time Fighters: The Shifter Prince, was gracious enough to give into my pestering for an interview. Thanks Mark!
1. When did you first decide you wanted to write?
When I was seven. I wrote a poem because the guy I sat next to in school looked like the Russian poet Mayakovsky. I was so happy when I wrote it that I had to share it with everyone. I was so surprised when only my mother was impressed.
2.What is your favorite genre to read and/or write?
I like to read the bios of people long dead (the longer, the better). I write magic realism with literary bend. I like literary fiction as well, but lately it has become a fart in the puddle during the night storm.

3. Do you have a favorite author?

4. What was it like writing Time Fighters: The Shifter Prince?
It was fun. I imagined myself a boy in a totalitarian country again, but with all the modern technologies and with magical powers. And with a girlfriend who has powers on her own and can kick ass but still likes me.

5.I s there something you want to write about, that you haven’t yet?
Yes, I am writing an adventure novel “The Breastplate of God.” A couple of American misfits are looking for the Breastplate of God–the Biblical Urim and Thummim–that was not lost during the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 598 BCE, but hidden by a secret society.

6.What is one silly fact about you?
I pick up fights I can’t win.

7. Do you have a favorite character you have written so far?
Yes, that was Alex in my semi-autobiographical novel “My Life at First Try.” As Publishers Weekly wrote about him: “It’s tough not to have Alex’s buoyant energy rub off on the reader.”

9.Anything you want to say to the readers of my blog?
If you like to learn how to write, read. Read anyway even if you don’t want to be a writer. Reading is the best thing to do except for sex.

Thanks for the Interview, Mark!
Bio
Mark follows the fine American tradition: a person moves to the US, learns the language, takes any job he can find, complains bitterly, but perseveres. Mark also writes flash fiction, so he knows how to express himself concisely, before the reader gets bored. He loves to travel so he can compare foreign countries to America and congratulate himself on the fine choice he made 32 years ago when he came here. He loves his family so he can get emotional support and an audience for complaints. He loves his cat, especially when the cat bites him on his ankles. Above all, he loves his readers, in sickness and in health.
He has his
technical side, too. Just look at his 11 US patents. Or check out his photography, translations and web design.
And thank you for the interview 🙂
Thank you for posting this, Kareen.
