Graceson Bound by Lies and Fate & Bound by Spells and Regret (three more on the way)

K.W. – How did you get started?

Graceson – Writing has always been a passion of mine. Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a scriptwriter, so storytelling was always close to my heart. I started with poetry and music lyrics, but as my career led me into Marketing and Communications, I naturally found myself copywriting and ghostwriting on the side. It wasn’t until three years ago, when I needed an outlet for some personal struggles, that I truly committed to writing books. I started mapping out my ideas, and once I began, I couldn’t stop. My first novel poured out of me, and from that moment on, I knew I had found my calling.

K.W. – What or who would you say is your greatest inspiration?

Graceson – My husband is my greatest supporter, he has always inspired me to do more. I’ve always been a high achiever, but his encouragement pushes me even further. Beyond that, I find inspiration in other authors and their stories. As an Australian writer, I love seeing fellow Aussie authors break into the international market, it’s exciting and motivating to witness their success.

K.W. – What does your writing process look like? Can you walk us through?

Graceson – When I start mapping out my books, I begin with the beginning and the end in mind, where I want to feel and what I want to experience along the way. From there, I choose names and outline the chapters. The journey doesn’t always go as planned; stories evolve and take on a life of their own. But as long as I know the start and the end, everything in between is just the icing on the cake.

K.W. – How do you approach writing a new book?

Graceson – You need to constantly fuel your brain with ideas. Before writing my next book, I watch movies and read books, noting down swoon-worthy moments, words I love, and characters that resonate with me.

Then, I create a playlist that reflects the mood of the book I’m working on—whether it’s heartbreak, adventure, or strength. I listen to this playlist as I write, letting the music guide the flow of my story.

K.W. – Who or what are your biggest influences?

Graceson – I love Kylie Scott and TL Swan, they were the first authors I read when I realized I wanted to write my own books. Both are Australian, which makes their success even more inspiring. I’m also a huge fan of Elle Kennedy, Kelly St. Clare and Susanne Wright. I’ve read everything they’ve written and love the way they weave stories of love, betrayal, and deep character development.

K.W. – How do you avoid writer’s block and stay inspired and creative?

Graceson – You need to keep reading, even when you’re writing. You can’t shut off that part of yourself. Reading keeps the creative juices flowing and the ideas coming. It’s not about copying others; it’s about keeping your mind engaged and constantly thinking.

K.W. – What are some struggles or challenges you have faced?

Graceson – I think one of the biggest challenges is managing your mental health throughout the process. You have to accept that not everyone will like your book—some will, some won’t. Staying level-headed can be tough, especially when faced with negativity, but it’s important to keep pushing forward and focusing on the readers who do connect with your work.

K.W. – How do you work to overcome these challenges?

Graceson – I don’t usually dwell on negativity, I just keep reading and move on to writing the next book. I never stop writing. It’s my escape, and I make it a habit to write every night as a way to let go of stress.

K.W. – How has the industry changed since you started?

Graceson – AI has become a massive tool in writing and creating book covers. There will always be someone producing something new and seemingly better, often with AI-driven tools. But you have to step back from that and focus on your own craft. Work with real artists and editors who bring genuine creativity and expertise to your work.

K.W. – Have you seen any new trends emerging?

Graceson – There are massive shifts in book cover trends right now, and I think simplicity is key. Currently, artists are leading the way, and I love seeing them get their moment. But I have a feeling that trend will fade, and we’ll eventually see covers reduced to just titles and minimal design, I even feel like hardbacks are on there way out, and more special covers for them will be created.

K.W. – What advice would you give to other authors?

Graceson – Don’t give up, this isn’t a race, it’s a marathon full of rollercoasters. If you feel like quitting, just start writing again. The world needs more books, and they help people in ways you may not even realize.

K.W. – Who is your favorite character that you’ve written and why?

Graceson – Eden is my favorite, she’s the FMC in my first book. She embodies everything I am and more. I wanted her to be strong and fierce, and I know I achieved that.

K.W. – Tell us what is next. Are there any upcoming projects you’re excited about?

Graceson – Yes! The series I started has five books in the making, and I’m excited to see it come together. After that, I’ll be doing a lot of podcast appearances. Next year, I’m partnering with another writer to launch my own podcast to help other writers on their journey, and then more books after that.

K.W. – What do you have planned for the future?

Graceson – I just keep writing. I had a goal to write 5 books before I am 40, that they will happen, and so the next goal will be 14 books before I am 50. One day, I hope to replace my corporate income—it’ll take time, but by the time I retire, I’ll have built something lasting. And then the ultimate goal is to be an international best seller, which I am working on at the moment.

K.W. – Give your website where people can contact your and any other additional information you want people to have in order to reach you.

Graceson – I’m a big Bookstagrammer. You can find me at @authormandigraceson. Website is coming soon with merch.
