Before I fall by Lauren Oliver

Before I fall 4 of 5 stars by Lauren Oliver

Samantha Kingston is your typical mean girl: pretty, popular, and evil. But after leaving a party she goes to with her best friends Lindsay, Ally and Elody, they suffer a major car wreck – and  her entire life changes for ever.

She wakes up the next day, and the following day, and all the days after that reliving the same day.

Will she ever get out of the cycle of repetitive days? But more importantly, will she learn how to change the actions of that night in order to avert the crash at all?

Before I fall is an epic story.

Samantha is the kind of girl, in the beginning of the book, who you can’t help but hate. She’s mean, she’s petty, and she’s evil to people who don’t deserve it.

But by the end of the book, not only was I rooting for her, I was genuinely hurt when she suffered through things she was trying so hard to prevent.

The writing in this book was truly masterful. There were times I had to stop and marvel at the fluidity of the author’s writing and how elegantly she brought me into Samantha’s world.

By the end of the book I had laughed and cried.

Spoilers

I’m the type of reader who loves happy endings – I try to avoid books that don’t provide that because I’m such a wimp that a depressing book will throw me into a slump for hours.

So, for those readers who are the same – let me warn you that this is not your traditionally “end-happy” book. It doesn’t end happy. Not really. Don’t get me wrong, it ends on an up-note  but for those who want the happily-ever-after-glow – you’re not going to get it. So, while I do have to say that the book did put me into a slump, I also must add that the writing was so good that the slump was worth it.

A solid four stars.
